I downloaded the new version and installed over the old one. When i try to start a new project or open an existing one, i get a "run-time error 13" - "type don't match" (or something like this - i get it in italian). Then i tried to unistall brutus and re-install it, but i get always the same error. I tried this at work where i have a un-registered version of brutus.

Hi robylu,
I just downloaded it to my PC at work, installed it and all seems fine. I did not install over on old version however. The old one had previoulsy been removed.
Possible there is a bug. Possible the download got corrupted. Perhaps, if you have not already tried, you could re-download the install file and try again.
Can someone else report if they are seeing an issue or not. Thanks.
Regards, Guilect
(registered or not makes no difference)
EDIT: I just tried installing this version over this version and it still worked fine for me.

Tried to re-download it several times but the error still happens. Then i tried to install it on another computer where i never installed brutus, and it functions!!! Ok then the problem is on my computer; only: where? Could be a program i installed after? Any idea?
I have to install it on my notebook where i have the registered version. If i have the same problem can i switch back to the previous version? If yes how?

Here is what I think is going on. We seem to have confirmed (both you and I) that the latest version works. (I see no point in going back to the last version). I believe that some other program, on the PC where you can not get Brutus2d to work, has 'messed' up something.
Let me explain my thoughts.
The Brutus2D.exe uses a couple of external files in order to run. These files include dll's and ocx's. Brutus2d keeps in its own directory these necessary files. Brutus2D (B2D) does not register these files with the operating system. When B2D starts it tries to find these files first where they are registered or in B2D's own directory. So, if these files are not registered some where on your PC it finds them in the B2D folder and runs. If The files have been installed by another application and their locations are registered Then B2D uses these and runs.
Now, lets say, some other application that uses one of these same files, installs the file, say an .ocx and registers its location. Then the progam is either uninstalled or manually removed in a way that actually deletes the file but does not unregister the files location. Now when B2D starts it says oh here is where I get this file. But the file is not there and causes B2D to not function.
One thing you could do is re-install the removed program so as to put back the file that is needed into its registered location. (which program is this, only you can decide. did you have some other program that either had the same kind of tabs or code editor window like B2D?).
Another thing is to unregister the file manually. (kind of a pain)
Register the B2D files manually. (not to bad to do)
Or I could make the B2D install program register these files.
The files I suspect are RevMDITabs.ocx and cmcs21.ocx. The first is a control that provides B2D with nice tabs. The second is the code editor control.
If you give me a little time, I can change the way that the installer handles these files. I will have the installer place these files into the windows system folder and register them there.

ok i understand, and it's more than possible as in that PC i install and uninstall a lot of programs. Have no idea wich of those has made all this, so i will try to see if (in some dir) there are other files matching those of brutus. i'll see what i get. Thanks a lot for your help Guilect (and obviously for the constant improvement you make to brutus...)

robylu, I have made a special install version of Brutus2D for you. brutus.pewtersoftware.com/brutus2d111.exe I believe this will fix your problem. Please let me know. (If it works, this will be the default method of install from now on.)

I tried the new version, but the error is still there. I tried to register the files manually but had no succes. And i did a search in the computer but i found no files that has the same name as those of brutus. Sorry.

So if I understand the symptom correctly it is like this: You can actually start Brutus2D and it would sit there okay for ever. It is when you try to bring up the code edit window, either by starting a new project or by loading in an existing one. The objects that get call in this case are the code edit window ocx and the tab control ocx. I still think it has something to do with these. I thought the special version I made for you would have solved that as it registers those files. So is there something else going on? Not sure what it could be. In this last version, Movie commands were added. These movie commands use a dll called "quartz.dll" You might want to verify that this exists on your system. It is usually in the system32 folder of Windows. If you want to try going back a revision use this link www.brutus2d.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1146606072Towards the bottom is a link for the patch. Download and unzip over the current install of B2D. Depending on how desperate you are, one thing to try would be doing a system restore back to a recent point in time where you knew things worked.

Yes you're right. Brutus starts fine and the error come up ONLY if i start a new project or load a previous one. Qurtz.dll is in system32 and i already tried to roll back windows to an old point, but it did not work. If i go back to the 1.0.1 version of brutus then everything is fine. At this point i give up: i will update my version on my notebook and we will see what will happen. Thanks a lot Guilect, from now on don't bother anymore about my crap computer... ;D

It is interesting that it works with v1.0.1 This tells me that it is probably not the ocx's. The other 'major' change that was done in V1.1 was to save and read back a bunch of the IDE settings, mostly for the font type used. I could see where if this was doing something it should not that it would fit the symptom that you have described.
Not sure why it would work on some people computers and not others though...
I have tried to make it break by changing IDE settings but so far it handles them okay.

A bad news! I tried the new version on my notebook and i get the same error. ehm... not the same as there, instead of displaying the error code 13, windows make an error report to microsoft. Now my problem is more annoying as on the notebook i have the registered version, so i can't make .exe files. Now i am working with version 1.0.1 and it works fine, so i will continue with this, but could you (Guilect) please try to think where the problem could be? I thought that could be a font problem: maybe i miss a font or i have a different one, or maybe i have too many fonts (but i tried to reduce them and got no solution). Does brutus look at a specified font when it opens a new project? I say this 'cause years ago i had a video editing program that did not run until i reduced the number of fonts. Sorry to annoy you but i would like to skip the idea to reformat my computer....

it will default to using "Courier New"
While I can not duplicate this issue here, I am now thinking it must have to do with the settings.
If you have some time, I can make a version of the latest version with the code editor settings stuff commented out. Then we can try to isolate the issue.

It has always been Courier New though so it probably is not that. I have created a special version which does not try to load any special code editor window settings. If you could see if this helps. Link: brutus.pewtersoftware.com/brutus2d_no_ide_settings.exeI believe we will get to the root of the cause.
