Old school BASIC sound support. Why? It would be great for development. Imagine you don't have the time to hunt down just the right sounds and need a placeholder. Use a beep or other old BASIC sound function. www.atariarchives.org/basicxl/showpage.php?page=57-hartnell

like this (a one line dll call)
Dim freq, dur ' frequency and duration freq = 255 ' frequency, from 37 to 32,767 dur = 20 ' duration (msec) msgbox "press ok to beep" dll.callapi "kernel32.dll", "Beep", freq, dur
(assumes that your PC has an internal speaker)
I will look into generating your own midi tones

There's no need to make the sound through the motherboard speaker. I realize that this is how it was done in the old days of Dos. Midi tones would work.
