Free, OpenGL, BASIC - style programming language. Can do 2D but best suited for 3D (IMHO). Similar to Basic4GL, but produces true 32-bit machine code compiled exe's, so they will run about 100 times faster. winbasicgl.memebot.com/

Very cool and straightforward indeed, I've played with it a little today, sweet memories of OpenGL coming back :-) OpenGL is 3D so yes you can do some 2D magic too (it's part of 3D :-) and while I don't know which of the many functions he's implemented as of yet, there's a lot of 2D capabilities in OpenGL. example: Perhaps you may have heard of a company called SiliconColor which was acquired by Apple last Fall. Their product (high-end color correction on Video) is OpenGL based. I'm interested in using something like this to make gadgets for 3D viewing and integration with Project Dogwaffle as a plugin, if it can connect to it (an activeX server). Anyone knows if WinBasicGL is OLE enabled? I like the examples, which build up to more and more complexity and features - very smart. Great way to learn the tools needed for 3D gamedev. I like the one in particular which uses billboard polygons for trees. One thing we do with Dogwaffle is painting with particle brushes, to leave long trails of hrubbery, bushes and foliage like tall grass, with alpha channel along the trails. Should look great in such billboard demos. -Philip www.thebest3d.com

WinBasicGL may take off, it might not. The BasicGLs are still new. -hartnell
