Emergence Basic (EBasic) is a BASIC programming language package that produces true machine code exe.s. It is freeware. It has support for directX9 (both 2D and 3D). It has basic OOP. I like it better than FreeBasic as it is a more integrated and well rounded package. Give it a try, it is free. If you end up not liking it, delete it. Click here for EBasic home page

It appears that Creative Basic is 'like' EBasic but only that it is an interpreter based language where EBasic is a true compiler. Interpreters are slower in program execution. It might be that for new users Creative Basic could be a little easier to use as there is no linker and such involved.

Oh, and what problems did you guys have with EBasic? Was it a while ago and maybe new versions have these issues fixed. I have used it to code a couple of utility programs with no problems. I was seriously considering writing a game framework for it.

many example programs didn't compile well and others had bugs ... for example, in the demo, where you roam around freely in some sort of dungeon ( 3D ) which looks like DOOM, I can't seem to keep the camera up ... it always points down on the ground
