This is a demo of how one can make a top-down view truck game. Pick up trailers and drive them around the map. There is also a crude map editor included. This is just a little toy I made. It is not a game, as there are not rules, and no goals to achieve. Maybe someone has some idea how i can turn it into at game. v02 v04 DownloadsInitial release source code v02 (~12kB) Perspective buildings source + exe v03 (~371kB) AI cars source + exe v04(~205kB)

Very nice If you wanted to turn it into a game you could introduce a time limit, so you have to connect the trailer & drive to another part of the map before the timer runs out.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I really do I just updated it and added some AI controlled cars that randomly drive around. There is no collision detection yet, so there is not much interaction with the AI cars, but who knows, maybe I will get there some day. The AI cars have a path of 5 squares ahead, and they just drive toward the next square in their path. Once they reach the next square, a new square is added to the front of the path in a random direction (out of all possible directions from that particular square). To see it in action you can set IS_DEBUG to true. When the cars come close to a turn they slow down. Later (I hope) I will also make them stop at intersections and wait for crossing traffic. This is half way done If it doesn't run 60 fps you can try to decrease the number of AI cars by changing NUM_AI_CARS, lowering the resolution or even stop drawing buildings (DRAW_BUILDINGS). Probably the buildings cause the most slowdown. They are drawn using graphics.setline() which is not the best solution. See first post for download link. Enjoy P.s. Try truck_demo_04_map_editor.b2d to see how I plan for the map-editor to work.

I put a link to a lot of free sprite related sites on the B4GL forum last year. If you spend enough time searching you may find something useful.

Thanks for the links mat. But i have already looked through all of those, in fact i have most of them in my "archive" .. i especially like these: reinerstileset.4players.de/buildingsE.htmlBut they are all isometric view. Maybe that's the way to go. I mean without some kind of texture mapping, or projective rendering or something in b2d it's gonna be difficult to get a feeling of depth in the game when the view is completely top-down. But i really want to use my truck

I've spent the past 20 minutes looking for other sprite & tilemap sets but all to no avail. There are a quite a few tools online like tileset makers & painting programs which I suppose you could download & use to develop your own sprites. But it would be a bit tedious.

I make my graphics myself. Really? You are quite capable i must say. I really like the way the pacman character bounces as he walks in your latest game. I don't think i'm able to make anything that would make me remotely satisfied though

Hello everyone... is anyone up for making graphics for a game like this? I.e. texture for the buildings and ground, and maybe some more cars and trucks, or at least trailers?

I'd like to help but my graphic skills are quite limited. Maybe someone else can help?
