Over on the Coding Monkeys forum they're having a coding competition. I'm thinking of entering the 2D game category, so I've started work on this maze game. I hope to add a few more mazes, add a timer & improve the graphics. Btw, I originally thought the players sprite was a cat but I now think that it's actually a monkey, lol. Download the demo here.

Nice start matthew. It would be appropriate if it were a monkey. (I think it looks like a rat). Good luck on the contest.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I've made a few minor updates to the new version. First, there is now a timer which times how long it takes you to reach the end point & I've increased the movement speed of the mouse (monkey). Download from here.

yes Matthew the new speed is OK ! I needed 16,84292 to find the escape ! Do you take enemies in your maze? would be quite good !
I do think that I make a Maze game myself ! I do have many ideas for these things. A maze game with time and more doors, then to find the correct door could be difficult for the player. A few enemies in the Maze would be also good for stress. Of course the player also gets a reward . points in a High Score Table.
What do you say ?

I'm glad to see you having another shot at b2d I think the speed of the rat (to me it looks like a rat) will depend on many factors, target audience, what the actual challenge will be, etc., and especially the music. There are some bugs though. I can go diagonal in some places, but not all. That should probably be removed as the monkey goes through the walls when going diagonal. Another idea is to make the walls themselves thinner, maybe 1-2 pixels of each square. That way you could have corridors right next to each other. It would give you more room to make the maze more complex, but it certainly is more complicated to implement, and also more difficult to make the level editor. What are your plans for the game? Keep up the good work

I was thinking about putting enemies in the maze & I was also thinking about putting items in it which you could collect & increase your score.
When I originally started work on the game I noticed that you could move diagonally too but I think it should be relatively simple to fix.

Hey matthew. How did it go with this one. Do you have anything to share? It is actually quite nice to go through the showcase section here. Lots of cool stuff

I actually did some more work on this, somewhere on my external hard drive I've got an updated version. If I can find it I'll try & upload it.
